Obituary

Janet L. Kocher, age 90, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at her in Scott Twp. home under the care of Compassus Hospice where she lived there for over 67 years.

Janet was born on Tuesday, September 25, 1934 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Sterling M. and Martha (Yount) Wintersteen. She graduated from the former Scott Twp. High School in 1952. She expanded her education by attending the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in education. On July 21, 1956, Janet married her loving husband, Richard William Kocher who preceded her in death on December 17, 2016. For several years, she was employed by the former Scott School and the former Orangeville Academy as a teacher until her first children was born, then she became a homemaker. Janet was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. She was also a member of the St. Luke Garden Club, Ye Old and New Craftsmen Club, Local Card Club, a 4H Leader and Cub Scout Leader, Lightstreet. Janet enjoyed baking, gardening, reading, crafting, playing cards, spending time with family and church friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, LeRoy Heller Wintersteen, DDS.

Survivors include her four beloved children: Richard S. Kocher and wife Carol of Ambler, Ronald L. Kocher and wife Chris of Bloomsburg, Randy W. Kocher and wife Suzanne of Bloomsburg, Renee A. Fruit and husband Robert of Bloomsburg, 10 grandchildren: Tom Higgins and wife Corey of Ambler, Sarah Kocher and husband Manfred Chladek of Stillwater, Kelly Foran and husband Robert of Bloomsburg, Andrew Kocher and wife Katelyn of Sauhrita, AZ, Randall W. "Billy" Kocher and wife Stephanie of Bloomsburg, Tim Kocher and wife Kate of Bloomsburg, granddaughter, Molly Fox and husband Brad of Hunlock Creek, Kathleen Diltz and husband Mitchell of Mifflinville, Robby Fruit and wife Bridget of Bloomsburg, Alicia Fruit of Bloomsburg; 18 great-grandchildren: Oliver Higgins, Hudson Higgins both of Ambler, Benjamin Kocher, Jonathan Kocher, Lucas Kocher, Oliver Kocher, Evelyn Kocher, all five of Sauhrita, AZ, Finnegan Foran, Camryn Kocher, Lena Kocher, Jack Kocher, Colin Kocher, Quinn Kocher, Perri Kocher all of Bloomsburg, Declan Fox of Hunlock Creek, Casey Diltz of Mifflinville, Vyolet Olscvay and Wesley Fruit both of Bloomsburg; and one great-great-grandson, Isaiah Miller of Bloomsburg; three siblings: Linda S. Wintersteen, Kay Hummell and husband Richard and Terry Sterling Wintersteen all of Bloomsburg.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 7 Luke Way, Bloomsburg.

Funeral Services will begin on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Luke Lutheran Church with Rev. John A. Mohan, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Kocher family.
