Janet D. Bitler, age 91, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of her home in Bloomsburg for over 20 years.

Janet was born on Saturday, January 13, 1934 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Norman and Beatrice J. (Sherwood) Bergenstock. She graduated from Catawissa High School. On September 14, 1957, Janet married her loving husband, Ernest B. Bitler, who preceded her in death on February 9, 2013, at the former St. John's Lutheran Church, Catawissa. For over 33 years, they owned and operated "The Bloomsburg Aquarium" until her retirement in 1990. Janet was a proud member of the Christ United Lutheran Church of Catawissa. She was also a member of the Silver Sneakers. Janet loved spending her time bird watching and doing crossword puzzles, but found the most joy in being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was also preceded in death by her son, Scott D. Bitler, and her brother, Donald Bergenstock.

Survivors include her beloved daughter: Michele A. Edgar and husband David of Bloomsburg; three grandsons: Brent L. Edgar of Catawissa, Ryan D. Edgar of Bloomsburg, Joseph R. Bitler and wife Stephanie of Benton; six great grandchildren: Aubrey I. Edgar of Bloomsburg, Payton E. Daum of Benton, Blake R. Edgar of Bloomsburg, Aaron D. Kremser of Benton, Colton J. Bitler of Benton, Addison T. Bitler of Benton; and her niece: Sheila Dove Jones of Bloomsburg.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Christ United Lutheran Church, 116 Church Street, Catawissa.

Funeral Services will begin on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Christ United Lutheran Church, Catawissa with Rev. Gordon E. Smith, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg, is honored to be serving the Bitler family.
