Jane R. Ross, age 94, of Millville died Sunday, December 8, at Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville. She had been in declining health for several months.
Jane was born on Wednesday, February 26, 1919 in Hazelbrook, PA a daughter of the late Ellsworth and Myrtle (Keller) Reed. Jane grew up in Sunbury, graduating from Sunbury High School in 1937. During her youth and after graduation she assisted her parents in their neighborhood grocery store. During World War II she worked at Westinghouse factory in Sunbury helping make radios for the U.S. Navy. She also served as a volunteer for the U.S. Army Aircraft Warning Service during the war.
Jane married Charles F. Ross in Baltimore MD in 1943. They celebrated their 70th anniversary on October 17, 2013. After marriage, Jane became a homemaker and devoted mother. She also assisted her husband in his shoe business for over thirty years.
Jane's life was centered around her Christian faith and church activities. She taught Bible School, led Bible studies in area nursing homes with her husband and hosted Bible studies in her Millville home. She attended the New Testament Assembly of God Church in Millville and the Millville Senior Center. Her hobbies included needlework and indoor gardening. Jane had many physical problems in her finial years but she had a sweet, brave spirit through it all.
Preceding Jane in death was a daughter, Doris, in 1953' a brother, John Reed, in 2007 and a sister, Gladys M Wheeland, in 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Charles F. Ross; a daughter, Tana Cooper, wife of David, of Jerseytown; three grandsons: Brett Cooper and wife, Tania Huusko, of Portsmouth, NH; Matthew Cooper of Jerseytown and Ross Cooper and wife, Wendy, of Hyde Park NY and seven great grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 15, from 3 to 4 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 107 W. Main at Railroad St., Millville.
Funeral services will also begin on Sunday at 4 p.m. with her pastor, Rev. David Rosenberger, officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery, Elysburg at a later time.
