Obituary

James E. Gipple, age 77, a life-long resident of Rupert, died unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon, November 19, 2013 as a recent patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Jim was born on Monday, October 5, 1936 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late John and Hester (Mensch) Gipple. In 1954, Jim completed his education after graduating from the Bloomsburg High School. Immediately following his education, Jim enlisted with the United States Air Force where he served his country faithfully as an Airman First Class Engine Mechanic during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, Jim married his loving wife, the former Mary K. Hayhurst. For over 40 years, Jim was employed by Milco Industries in the Knitting Department. In 1998, Jim retired from Milco Industries as a foreman, and never missed one day of work in his 40 years of employment.
Following his retirement, Jim also worked part-time at Weis Market Stores in Bloomsburg and in Danville. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg for many years. He was a nationally registered EMT, and very active with the Bloomsburg Ambulance Association. He was also a former member of the Bloomsburg Moose L.O.O.M. #623, the Bloomsburg Elks B.P.O.E. #436, the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273, the Montour Township Fire Department and the Fireman's Relief Association. Jim enjoyed spending many of his winters in Florida, wood working and working with his son.
Jim was preceded in death by two brothers: Billy Gipple and Jack Gipple and also by a twin sister, Peggy Bertollo.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary K. (Hayhurst) Gipple of Rupert; three children: Steven G. Keller and wife, Sharon of Rupert; Debbie Stolz of Bloomsburg; and Cindy Rider and husband, Terry, of Bloomsburg; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; and a nephew: Donald Gipple and wife, Camille, of Danville. Jim was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Private funeral services will be held at the family's convenience. Memorial contributions in Jim's name are suggested to: the Bloomsburg Ambulance Assoc., 307 E. 2nd St., Bloomsburg or the Montour Township Fire Department, 195 Rupert Drive, Bloomsburg.
