James N. Gillaspy, age 70, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at his South Centre Twp. home surrounded by his loving family. James was a resident of Bloomsburg all of his life.
He was born on Wednesday, October 5, 1949 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late James Gillaspy and Louise (Reibsome) Gillaspy Craig. Throughout his younger years, James attended the Bloomsburg area schools, and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1968. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. For over 20 years, James was employed by the Town Of Bloomsburg as an Equipment Operator and Maintenance Technician until his retirement in 1999.
James was a member of the First English Baptist Church, Bloomsburg. He was a life member of Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273 and the Bloomsburg V.F.W. Post #804. James enjoyed spending his time reading, watching football on tv and spending time at the American Legion club.
Survivors include his two sons, Kirby L. Gillaspy of Pittston, and Tyler J. Gillaspy of Bloomsburg, four grandsons, Logan B. Gillaspy, Righter J. Gillaspy, Lucas T. Gillaspy, Parker D. Gillaspy, and a sister, Kay Scofero of NY.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Dr. Lee Barnhardt, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy with military honors being provided by a combined American Legion and V.F.W. groups. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Gillaspy family.
