Jack V. Sorber, age 83, of Buckhorn, died on Tuesday evening, December 2, 2014 at his home surrounded by family and under the care of Geisinger-Columbia Montour Home Hospice.
Jack was born on Sunday, May 24, 1931, a son of the late Robert P. and Mary C. (Shultz) Sorber. Jack began his education at the Bloomsburg Normal School and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1950.
Following graduation, Jack worked for the Dobyn's Studio until he enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully during the Korean War era, and served with the Army Signal Corps in Paris on security detail. Following his honorable discharge Jack began a career of over 50 years with the former U.S. Radium Corp. as a Machinist.
For many years, Jack was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bloomsburg where he served as Elder, Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School Teacher. He was an avid collector of antique radios and miniature steam engines.
On July 5, 1958, Jack Sorber and Aileen Karabon were married. Surviving in addition to his wife, Aileen, are three children: Mary Dye and husband, Scott, of Seattle, WA; Scott Patterson Sorber and wife, Noelia, of Williamsport; and Lynn K. Dugan of Bloomsburg; and also two grandsons: Dylan Sorber and Jackson Sorber. He was the last member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by a brother: Robert P. Sorber.
In keeping with Jack's wishes, his body will be donated to the Medical Science. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Sorber family.
