Jack F. Kountz, age 88, of West Fourth Street, Bloomsburg died on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 a resident of Balanced Care at Bloomsburg since November.
Jack was born on Thursday, January 10, 1924 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late John E. and Lois L. (Farnsworth) Kountz. He was a member of the 1941 Graduating Class of the Bloomsburg High School. Following his education, Jack enlisted with the United States Army, 417th Infantry Regiment on February 4, 1943. He served his country faithfully during World War II in multiple areas of Belgium and Central Europe. On December 5, 1945, Jack was honorably discharged from his time of service in the United States Army, and was awarded the decorations of the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medals with three Bronze Service Stars.
Throughout most of his adult life, Jack was employed by the Sylvania Electric Products, Inc. in both South Williamsport and Montoursville. Jack attended the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg, and was also a member of the Bloomsburg Moose L.O.O.M. #623. Jack had an exceptional love for animals, and especially his Cocker Spaniel "Ben" and his cat "Dusty" who were always a large enjoyment of his life.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, James F. Kountz in 1953.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Kountz and wife, Mary, of Bloomsburg; a sister-in-law, P.J. Johnson of Bloomsburg; and a nephew, Robert J. Kountz of China Grove, NC.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on next Thursday, December 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. in Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Gary D. Weaver of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lime Ridge where a combined group of American Legion/VFW will provide Military Honors.
