Irene (Woodring) Dieffenbacher, age 88, of Bloomsburg died on Monday morning, December 30, 2013 a resident of Orangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center since October of 2011.
Irene was born on Thursday, March 19, 1925 in Hazleton, a daughter of the late Howard and Kathryn (Rarich) Woodring. Throughout her younger years, she attended the Bloomsburg Elementary and High School. In addition to caring for her family, Irene helped her husband operate the Colonial Kitchen in Bloomsburg during the late 1960's. She was a member for many years of the Buckhorn Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday school teacher and also a Bible school teacher. She was also a member of the Hemlock Township Homemakers and was also a very active volunteer with the local E.O.S. Therapeutic Riding Center in Buckhorn. Irene always loved spending her time reading, crocheting and knitting. Her family will always remember her talent as an accomplished quilter as well.
On September 18, 2005, Irene was preceded in death by her late husband, Harold K. Dieffenbacher. She was also preceded by a daughter: Beth D. German on June 3, 2010; and also by a brother: Anson C. Woodring on September 1, 2013.
Survivors include a daughter: Shirley Slifer of Bloomsburg; a son: Daniel Dieffenbacher and wife, Bonnie, of Billings, MT; five grandchildren: Anna Newkirk, Janus Haeussler, Abigail Dieffenbacher, Clay Dieffenbacher and Eric Dieffenbacher; and also a brother: M. Wayne Woodring and wife, Nancy, of Clearwater, FL.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg. Gravesides services will be held privately in the Dutch Hill Cemetery, Hemlock Township.
