Obituary

Howard E. Shaffer, age 88, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Howard was a resident of his home in North Centre Twp. for over 13 years and previously lived in Scott Twp.

He was born on Saturday, March 21, 1931 in Scott Twp., a son of the late Roy C. and Lillian (Sitler) Shaffer. Howard graduated from the former Scott Twp. High School in 1949. On April 16, 1955, he married his loving wife, the former Betty E. Fetterman. Howard was a farmer and a truck driver, working at various businesses including: Magee Carpet Co., Columbia Asphalt, Pennsylvania Highway Department, Milk Tank Lines, Cooper Jarret, Joe Delbo, Diehl Nursery and last at New Penn Trucking where he retired in 1993.

He was a member of the Hidlay Lutheran Church and a former member of the Trucking Teamsters Union. Howard enjoyed spending his time traveling, camping, gardening, hunting and spending time with his family, grandchildren and his great granddaughter. He loved spending time with his wife at their friends cabin in Lopez.

In addition to his parents, Howard was also preceded in death by four brothers, C. Earl Shaffer, Doyle Shaffer, Rolland Shaffer, Raymond Shaffer, and two sisters, Mae Shaffer, and Pearl Shaffer.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty E. Shaffer at home, a son, Craig E. Shaffer and wife Faith of Reno, TX, a daughter, Karen E. Shaffer of Saltillo, PA, two grandchildren, Jennifer L. wife of Aaron Rosenzweig of Staten Island, NY, Nathan E. Shaffer and girlfriend Angela Kulp of Orangeville, a great granddaughter, Josephine C. Rosenzweig, a sister, Grace M. Shaffer of Orangeville, and several nieces & nephews.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg.

Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Melody Sell, officiating.

Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Shaffer family.
