Howard L. "Butch" Remley, Jr., age 73 a life-long resident of Columbia County and of Bloomsburg, died on Friday morning, April 26, 2013, after a brief time at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was a resident of his home in Bloomsburg for over 19 years.
Butch was born on Thursday, November 9, 1939 in Rohrsburg, a son of the late Howard L., Sr. and Jean N. (Hartman) Remley. He completed his education after graduating from the Bloomsburg High School.
On February, 1957, Butch enlisted with the United States Air Force where he served faithfully for over four years as an Air Policeman with the K-9 in Korea during the Korean Conflict. On February 17, 1961, Butch was honorably discharged from his time of dedicate service to his country. After returning home from the service, he was employed by Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg Mills, Inc., and also served as a Police Officer with the Bloomsburg and Scott Township Police Department. Most recently, Butch was employed by the Bloomsburg University Police Department for over 28 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg. Butch will always be remembered for his love of his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. When time allowed, Butch also enjoyed hunting, baseball, riding his motorcycle, and cheering on the Pittsburg Steelers. He was also a member of the Orangeville Sportsman Club.
Survivors include his beloved wife, of 10 years, Barbara J. Keller, whom he married on May 10, 2003; a daughter: Danielle D. Parri and husband, Joseph, of Danville; a son: Todd W. Remley and wife, Laura, of Bloomsburg; a step-daughter: Debra Shade and finance`, Jack Devine, of Palm Harbor, FL; a step-son: Kirby R. Smith and wife, Julie, of Bloomsburg; six grandchildren: Adam, Kayla, Hannah, Olivia, Aaron, and Alex; and also by a brother: Michael Remley and wife, Carol, of Rockford, IL.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Joel L. Zeiders of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, officiating. Butch will be laid to rest with complete Military Honors provided by a combined group of VFW, American Legion and active duty personnel in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
