Obituary

Herman E. Morris, age 85, a life-long resident of Greenwood Township, died on Thursday morning, May 2, 2013 at home on his farm. For over 55 years, Herman had lived on his Greenwood Township farm.
Herman was born on Friday, July 22, 1927 in Greenwood Township, a son of the late Paul and Edith (Karschner) Morris. Herman was educated in the Greenwood Schools. Following his education, he continued working on the family farm, and will always be remembered as a farmer. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He avidly read local history especially information from the Historical Society. As a consequence of spending much time observing local construction projects he was given the name "The Inspector". He will be missed by community residents at future building endeavors.
On March 24, 1951, Herman married his beloved wife of over 62 years, Eloise (Kile) Morris. His early years of employment were with J. Paul Laubach Construction of Benton. Herman transported and delivered livestock for Economy Locker of Pennsdale. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Greenwood Lemons Cemetery. Herman will always be remembered for his dedication and love to his family as well as his devoted passion for farming. He was also a faithful volunteer at the annual Pine Summit Butchering Day, his expertise was greatly valued.
In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death, by a sister, the late Mary Katherine Steinruck, on July 2, 1997.
Surviving in addition to his wife is daughter: Paula M. Weatherill and husband, Dale, of Greenwood Township; a son: Keith H. Morris and wife, Linda, also of Greenwood Township; four grandchildren: Chad Weatherill, Crystal Facey, Nathanael and Melanie Morris, two great-granddaughters: Madeline and Caitlyn Weatherill; and a brother: P. Donald Morris and wife, Arla Jean, of Millville.



A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday evening, May 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 W. Main at Railroad Street in Millville. Friends and family will also be received on Tuesday, May 7 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Millville.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, at 11 a.m. from the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1314 State Route 245, Millville with Pastor Timothy M. Valiante, officiating. Herman will be laid to rest in the Greenwood Lemons Cemetery, Greenwood Township. Memorial contributions in Herman's honor are suggested to: Columbia County Historical Society or Emmanuel Baptist Church Memorial Fund 1314 State Route 245, Millville.
