Obituary

Henry Cecil Turberville, Jr., 81, of Mifflinville, passed away at his home on Monday, June 13, 2022. Cecil was born on May 23, 1941 in Sardis, Alabama to Henry Cecil Turberville, Sr. and Dora Elizabeth (Langston) Turberville. He grew up in Pleasant Hill, Alabama, graduating from Carlowville High School in 1959. He married Ann Hardy in 1961 and had three children: Debbie, Jennifer, and Justin. Cecil attended the University of Alabama where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1964 and a Master of Education in Physical Education in 1965. Upon graduation, he taught history and coached at Lowndes County High School in Fort Deposit, Alabama.

Cecil was a Professor of Health and Physical Education at Bloomsburg University for 35 years, retiring in 2002. He also served as the university's Athletic Director, Assistant Football Coach, and in other various coaching capacities over the years. He married Rebecca Oliver in 1983 and had three children: Kristin, Jessica, and Alison. He then married Candy Brown in 1997 and had one daughter, Laci. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attending and serving at the local Berwick Ward for 55 years.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Heber Wilson Turberville. He is survived by his children: Deborah Fryer and husband William of Kaska, PA; Jennifer Warden and husband Brent of Piedmont, OK; Justin Hardy of Mifflinville; Kristin Lewallen and husband John of Berwick; Jessica Mains and husband Scott of Windsor, CT; Alison Heggstrom and husband Hobie of Mt. Pocono; Laci MacKay and husband Drew of Opelika, AL. Cecil is also survived by his sister, Sue Ellen Martin and husband Johnnie, formerly of Pell City, AL, and his sister-in-law Judy Turberville of Tuscaloosa, AL. He leaves behind 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Cecil was an avid Alabama football fan who loved reading, good southern BBQ, and attending local sporting events with his friends. We will miss his silly voice-mails, award-winning pies, witty sense of humor, and even the retellings of all his old stories. A private memorial service will be held with family and friends.
