Helen C. (Casey) Thackara, age 94, a life-long resident of Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday afternoon, November 25, 2014, a resident of Grandview Health Homes in Danville.
Helen was born on Friday, August 6, 1920 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late William C. and Myrtle (Rishe) Casey. In 1938, Helen graduated from the Bloomsburg High School with her high school sweetheart and soon to be husband, Charles "Chic" S. Thackara. On August 31, 1941, Helen married her beloved husband of a strong 71 years together until he passed on August 6, 2012. In addition to supporting her husband with his employment as an Electrolux service and distribution, Helen was employed by the former Woolworth Variety Store and the Racusins Men's Wear in Bloomsburg. Helen will always be remembered by her family for her savory apple pies and Sunday family dinners.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was also preceded in death by a sister: Frances Rinker and a brother: Williams Casey, Jr.
Survivors include two sons: William C. Thackara and wife, Jane, of Danville; and Robert A. Thackara and wife, Sharon, of Bloomsburg; a daughter: Frances A. Mills and husband, Robert, of Whitehall; five grandchildren: Christie, Myriah Jo, Anthony, Richard, and Brett; four great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Cory, Ryan and Marshall; and also by a niece: Helen Dreisbach and husband, Lee, of Catawissa.
A Private Graveside Service for family will be held in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Thackara family.
