Obituary

Helen Mae "Sis" Dawalt, age 93, formerly of Lightstreet, died on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, a resident of the Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care Center, Bloomsburg where she resided since May 24, 2017. Helen was a resident of her home in Lightstreet for over 44 years.
Helen was born on Saturday, December 8, 1923 in Lime Ridge,, a daughter of the late Stott Earl and Arlene (Boone) McHenry. Helen graduated from the former Scott School in 1941. Helen expanded her education by attending and graduating from Empire Beauty College of Wilkes Barre.
Helen worked for her father at the McHenry Garage in Lightstreet. She had a beauty shop inLightstreet with her sister, Shirley. During WWII she worked for the government as an inspector at the ACF in Berwick.
On May 5, 1946, Helen married her loving husband, Mark L. Dawalt who died April 19, 1990.
Helen was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending her time completing crafts; knitting and needle point. She loved sports especially the Philadelphia Phillies and was a committed Democrat.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was also preceded by son, James M. Dawalt on October 12, 2015 and siblings: Earl McHenry, Jr., Shirley Durso, Doris Everhart, and Blanche Eddinger. She was the last surviving member of the McHenry family.
Survivors include three children: Timothy Dawalt and wife, Carol, Joey A. Dawalt and Tina M. Thomas and husband, Mark, all of Bloomsburg; James' wife, Deborah Dawalt of Lightstreet; grandchildren: James Dawalt II and wife, Beverly, Jeffrey Dawalt, Abby Miller, Angela Lannan and husband, Josh, Kelly Thomas and Katie Thomas; 2 step grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 from 1 pm to 2 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will continue at 2 p.m with Rev. John Fenton, officiating. Graveside committal services will be held privately. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Dawalt family.
