Helen P. Severn

Helen P. Severn , age 87, of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at home surrounded by her family and under the care of Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice. Helen was a resident of her home in Bloomsburg for over 58 years. She made a lifetime of memories and friendships while living on Magee Row, Bloomsburg, where she was born. Helen was born on Saturday, April 27, 1929 a daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (Martz) Polk. Throughout her younger years, Helen attended the Bloomsburg area schools, and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1947. On February 1, 1950, Helen married her loving husband, John "Jack" Severn. Helen was a member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish. She enjoyed spending her time baking, playing cards, and gardening. Also, Helen greatly enjoyed spending summers at Rehoboth Beach and at her summer home in Forks, PA. In addition to her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by sister, Alice Terwilliger and a brother, Albert Polk. Survivors include her beloved husband of 67 years, John "Jack" Severn, daughter, Stephanie Severn of Bloomsburg, niece, Kathy Stewart of Bloomsburg, and dear friends; Jan, John & Kim Barton and family. A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg. A Christina Wake Service will begin at 6 pm Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 10:00 am at the St. Columba Catholic Church, Third and Iron Sts., with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, as celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Severn family.
