Obituary

Helen F. Meeker, age 95, of 11th Street in Bloomsburg, died suddenly on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. She was admitted Sunday morning following a sudden illness.
Helen was born on Saturday, January 9, 1915 in Berwick, a daughter of the late Leonard R. and Harriet Deiterick Gearhart. She was a member of the 1932 Graduating Class of the Berwick High School. Following graduation, she was employed by Wise Potato Chip, Berwick; and during World War II, she was employed by ACF in Berwick. She was last employed in the office of Lycoming Linen, a division of Sunshine Laundry in Bloomsburg, for 20 years until her retirement in December of 1979.
Helen was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and scenic drives of the beautiful views of nature throughout the Susquehanna Valley.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Claude Meeker in 1966 and a sister: Betty Jane Gearhart in 1931.
Survivors include her beloved and only daughter: Phyllis Meeker Bernatonis of Bloomsburg; two Sisters-in-Law: June Laster of Bloomsburg and Nathel Hickey of Bloomsburg; several nephews and nieces and cousins.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 6, at 1:30 p.m. in New Rosemont Cemetery in Espy with Rev. Jane L. O'Borski, Associate Minister of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg, officiating. The immediate family will provide flowers. The Meeker/Bernatonis family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home of 745 Market and Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
