Helen (Tomaszewska) Kramer, age 94, died on Thursday evening, January 29, 2015 a resident of the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Health Care Center where she had resided since 2008.
Helen was born on Monday, January 17, 1921 in Poland a daughter of the late Stephen and Michalina (Tizdebsca) Tomaszewska. In September of 1939, Poland was invaded by Germany when Helen was taken by Nazis to a Labor Camp. She worked there as forced labor until the end of World War II. After liberation in 1945, Helen went to the former Yugoslavia where she lived for a short period of time, then relocated to Italy. She met her future husband, William C. Kramer while in Italy. Many years later, Helen immigrated to Philadelphia where she reunited with Bill, and they married on October 17, 1956 in Mifflinville.
Helen and Bill resided in Columbia County for most of their lives. On March 16, 1995, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. For over 27 years, Helen was employed by Milco Industries until her retirement in 1981. As a member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish, Helen was an active member of the Legion of Mary for many years. She enjoyed art, drawing, oil painting, reading, gardening, ethnic cooking and loved nature.
Survivors include a step-son: William C. Kramer, Jr. of Dorchester, NH; a step-daughter: Arthena "Sandy" Lee of Rumney, NH; a granddaughter: Teresa Harlow and husband, Christopher, of Hawaii; and a godson: Leslie Sweigart and wife, Alina, of Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning, February 3, at 10 a.m. at the St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Third and Iron Street in Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Lime Ridge. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Kramer family.
