Obituary

Harvey E. Beck, Jr., age 82, of Bloomsburg, died on Monday morning, March 18, 2013, a patient of Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Harvey was born on Saturday, January 17, 1931 in Sugarloaf Township, a fourth generation Native American and the son of the late Harvey E. and Luvera (Eisenhower) Beck, Sr. He completed his education from the Millville Area High School. On December 19, 1948, Harvey enlisted with the United States Army and served his country as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. During his time of service, he was awarded the honors of the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. On June 3, 1952, Harvey was honorably discharged from his time of dedicated service and returned home to the Bloomsburg area.
Harvey was the former owner and operator of K-Cab Co. in Bloomsburg for over 13 years. Most recently, he was employed by Bloomsburg University in the Maintenance Department until his retirement in 1994. For many years, Harvey was a long standing member of the former Church of the Nazarene in Bloomsburg. He served as a Director of the Men's ministries, taught Caravan, a Christian Scouting Group, a volunteer of the Northeast Nazarene Camp in Maryland, worked with the Native American Reservation in Arizona with the local Church of the Nazarene, and was also the Head Usher and Church Board Member for many years. Currently, Harvey was a member of the Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Montandon and served as coach of the Upward Bound Program.
For many years, Harvey dedicated numerous hours of time assisting and working with other Veterans in the area at the Orangeville Manor Personal Care Facility. When time allowed, Harvey loved to hunt, fish and play softball. His friends and family will always remember the times spent playing Rook with Harvey, and his love for this particular card game.
On September 3, 1955, Harvey married his beloved wife of 57 years, Eleanor (Long) Beck, of Bloomsburg. Also surviving is a daughter, Carol Beck of Manchester, CT; a son, Steven Beck and wife, Nancy, of Marshfield, MA; two grandchildren: David and Nathan also of Marshfield; and two brothers: Walter Beck of Bloomsburg and Russell Beck of Catawissa. Harvey was also preceded in death by two brothers: Edward and Arthur Beck.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 21, from 1 to 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Thursday, March 21 at 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Marjorie Fisk of the Fairview Mountain Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Graveside services with full Military Honors will follow in the Creveling Cemetery, Espy.
