Harry T. Hughes, age 78, a 57 year resident of Bloomsburg, died on Saturday evening, November 22, 2014 in the Emergency Room of the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital.
Harry was born on Tuesday, November 26, 1935 in Williamsport, a son of the late Lawrence and Edna (Brown) Hughes. Throughout his younger years, Harry attended the Williamsport area schools and graduated from the Williamsport High School in 1954. Harry expanded his education by attending the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College in Bloomsburg, and graduating with a teaching degree in History and Social Studies. During his education, Harry was always recognized for his outstanding athleticism in football and wrestling. During his college athletics, he was also contacted by the Cleveland Browns with interest in playing professional football. On July 7, 1966, Harry married the former Imogene Stuckey of Bloomsburg. Locally, he was employed for over 40 years by the former Haddon Craftsmen in South Centre Township as a press operator until his retirement in 2001.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Imogene Hughes, of Bloomsburg; four children: Robert N. Moore of Berwick; Nancy Miller and husband, Leonard, of Bloomsburg; Susan Pruitt of Berwick; and Thomas M. Hughes and wife, Renee, of Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Harry was also the last surviving member of his immediately family.
