Harry J. George, age 83 of East Eighth Street, Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the Balanced Care at Bloomsburg. Formerly of Miami, Florida, he was a resident of his home on Eighth Street since 1992 until his admittance to Balanced Care at Bloomsburg on April 7, 2010. He had been failing in health for over three years.
Harry was born on Sunday, October 10, 1926 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Harry and Clara (Weigold) George. He was a graduate of the Bloomsburg High School and attended the Bloomsburg State Teachers College. He served in the Pacific Theater with the United States Marine Corp during World War II.
During most of his working career, he was a purchasing agent for a Yacht supply company until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Baha'i Faith. He was also a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273 and the Bloomsburg Kiwanis Club. His passion and hobby was building model railroad trains and scenery.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Emily (Bethel) George; two sons: Martin J. George of Bloomsburg and William J. George and his wife Renee, of Atlanta, Georgia; and four grandchildren: William, E. George, Isaac A. George, Julian Hall and Jessica Hall; two sisters: Betty Bruhlmeyer of Bloomsburg and Marion Lehman of Oneida NY. Mr. George was preceded in death by a brother: Donald George.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home at 745 Market Street in Bloomsburg. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 23 at 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home with his brother-in-law, Norman Bethel, officiating. Graveside Services will be held in the New Rosemont Cemetery. There will be a combined VFW/ Legion Group providing Military Honors.
