Harold Glenn Girton, age 80, of Bloomsburg, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 17, 2019. Harold was a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg.
He was born on Friday, February 3, 1939 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Morris E. and Jane (Walter) Girton. Throughout his younger years, Harold attended the Bloomsburg area schools. Harold faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960 with the 520th Military Police in Grafenwoehr, Germany.
On October 2, 1960, Harold married his loving wife, the former Patricia R. Snyder who preceded him in death on May 31, 2017. He was employed by Moyer Brothers, Magee Carpet Co., both of Bloomsburg and later at Bennie's Bee Hive, Berwick until his retirement. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, go to horse races, casinos and spending time on the family farm. Harold was a very caring person who would go out of his way to help someone. He had a soft spot for pets, having many throughout the years. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Penn State football, NASCAR races and old Western movies. He loved spending time with his family and friends drinking coffee.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harold was also preceded in death by a son, David G. Girton on March 25, 1998, and two brothers, Chester M. Girton, and Calvin E. Girton.
Survivors include his two sisters, Barbara G. Morris of Bloomsburg, Beth I. Earnest of Whitelake, MI, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon, pastor of Shiloh Bible Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in St. Paul's Lutheran (Straub's) Cemetery, Frosty Valley, with military honors being provided by a combined V.F.W. and American Legion group. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Girton family.
