Obituary

Guy W. Burkland, age 61, of Bloomsburg, died on Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2013 with his father and brothers by his side while a resident of the Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice.
Guy was born on Monday, January 28, 1952 in Bloomsburg, a son of Charles A. Burkland, Sr., of Bloomsburg and his late mother, Janet M. (Shultz) Burkland who passed on January 18, 1995. Throughout his younger years, Guy attended the Central Columbia Area Schools. For many years, Guy was employed at many auto mechanic garages in Buckhorn and also Tire World in Berwick. For nine years, he was employed by the Buckhorn Truck Stop as a mechanic. He was well known in the area as a master mechanic. It was said that although he had challenges in his life there was no one that could fix a vehicle like Guy could. There was nothing that made him happier then working in his garage, or driving a tow truck to help out a friend, family member or neighbor.
In addition to his mother, Guy was preceded in death by a sister: Cindy S. Burkland, in infancy, in 1957, and also by a brother: Joseph W. Burkland in July of 2012.
Survivors included his father, Charles A. Burkland, Sr., of Bloomsburg; three brothers: Rodney F. Burkland and wife, Ann, of Orangeville; Jeffrey B. Burkland and wife, Patricia, of Bloomsburg; Charles A. Burkland, Jr., and wife, Diane, of Berwick; four sisters: Susan M. Fox and husband, John, of Bloomsburg; Sally J. Burkland of Berwick; Sherry L. Parr and husband, Steven, of Mifflinville; and Judy L. Hess and husband, Rodney, of Berwick; a sister-in-law: Rosemary Burkland of Mifflinville and many nephews and nieces.
At the request of the Burkland family, all services will be held privately at this time. The Burkland family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
