Grace M. Shaffer, age 99, formerly of Bloomsburg, died of natural causes on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at The Gardens at Orangeville where she had been a resident for several years.
She was born on Monday, December 5, 1921 in Scott Township, the fourth of eight children of the late Roy Cromwell and Lillian Mae (Sitler) Shaffer.
Grace graduated from the Scott High School. For over 44 years, Grace was employed by the former Magee Carpet Company and became one of a select few tie-in employees (before computerization) until her retirement in 1986. Grace was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. After leaving the family's Scott Township farm, she lived a quiet life on Locust Street with her mother and two sisters, until their deaths.
Grace traveled briefly to the western states with her sister. She was a kind, soft spoken and family oriented person. She was insistent that a rose bush be planted on each sibling's grave as well as her parents' graves.
In addition to her parents, Grace was also preceded by siblings: C. Earl Shaffer, Mae Shaffer, Rolland Shaffer, Raymond Shaffer, Doyle Shaffer, Pearl Shaffer, and Howard Shaffer and two nephews: Alan Shaffer and Craig Shaffer.
Grace is the last surviving member of her immediate family, leaving behind a sister-in-law: Betty Shaffer of Bloomsburg; and nieces and nephews: Eileen Shaffer of Fayetteville, PA, Suzanne Moore and husband, Dale, of Orangeville, Gail Penman and husband, David, of Schnecksville, Penny Shaffer and wife, Shirley, of Lebanon, Crissie Brassington and husband, Charles, of Fernville, Karen Shaffer of Bloomsburg, and Steven Shaffer of Bloomsburg and several great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 10:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
