Gloria D. Friend, age 78, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022, a patient of the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital. Gloria was a resident of her home in Bloomsburg for over 3 years.

She was born on Tuesday, September 12, 1944 in Wellsboro, a daughter of the late John L. and Audrey Ruby (Parsons) Torpy. She attended the Philadelphia School for the Deaf. On September 30, 1967, Gloria married her loving spouse, William James Friend Jr., who preceded her in death on December 13, 2008. For over 10 years, Gloria was employed by Truck Lite until her retirement. She attended the Community Alliance Church, Bloomsburg. She was also involved in the Deaf Ministry at Community Alliance Church, Deaf Bible Study, and Bloomsburg University Interpreter Students Interactions. Gloria enjoyed spending her time completing mandala puzzles, 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles, bible word search and adult coloring books. She was an avid horror film watcher. She was very active in the deaf community.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was also preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Day.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Friend of Wildwood, FL, a sister, Carol Lackey and husband Robert of Wellsboro, PA; as well as several nieces, nephews and two grandchildren.

Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the Community Alliance Church, 1142 Ridge Road, Bloomsburg with Rev. Jay Olivo, officiating. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Friend family.
