Gertrude "Trudy" P. Alwine, age 72, of Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday afternoon, October 15, 2013 a resident of the Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice since February.
Trudy was born on Monday, March 17, 1941 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Adolph and Gertrude (Rogalla) Moebus. In 1959, Trudy completed her education after graduating from the Johnstown High School. For over 13 years, Trudy was employed by the Sears, Roebuck and Company in Johnstown and also in Trenton, New Jersey. In 1981, Trudy became the owner and operator of the Little Dutch Inn in Bloomsburg until selling the business in 2002. She continued her employment as a Campus Police Dispatcher for Bloomsburg University from 2001 to 2010. Trudy loved spending her free time bowling at the Bloomsburg Moose's former location on Main Street in Bloomsburg, and also enjoyed playing pool with friends until recently when her health would not allow.
In addition to her parents, Trudy was preceded in death by three siblings: Howard Moebus, Herbert Moebus and Helen Logar.
Surviving is her husband, Robert P. Alwine; a daughter: Suzanne Purcell and husband, Chris, of Bloomsburg; a son: Robert J. Alwine of Baton Rouge, LA; two granddaughters: Megan and Emily Purcell; and a sister: Nancy Sheridan and husband, Jack, of Levittown.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 19 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Saturday afternoon, October 19 at 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with Hospice Chaplain, Rev. Christian Dunlap, officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow in the Waller Cemetery.
