Gertrud A. Viets, age 90, formerly of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday, June 2, 2011 a resident of Magda's Family Care Home in Phoenix, Arizona. She has resided in Arizona with family for the past ten years.
Gertrud was born on Friday, July 2, 1920 in Schollene, Germany, a daughter of the late Karl and Anna (Behrand) Meyer. For over 28 years, she was employed as a Silversmith for Oneida Limited. She was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Oneida, New York. She attended the First English Baptist Church while residing in Bloomsburg.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William D. Viets, on February 19, 1975.
Survivors include a son: W. Dennis Viets of Rome, New York; a daughter: Olivia S. Braendle of Peoria, Arizona; a grandson: Matthew Braendle and a granddaughter: Amy Viets both of Peoria, Arizona; a great-grandson: Seth Viets and also a brother: Werner Meyer of Schollene, Germany.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg, with Rev. John Kolenda, of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday just prior to services. Graveside Services will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
