Obituary

Rev. Gerda Bocker, age 86, of Bloomsburg previously from NYC, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at her niece's home where she went to be with the Lord. She was a resident of her home in Scott Township for one year.

Gerda was born on Saturday, July 23, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late Hugo and Emilie (Benzenberg) Bocker. She graduated from the Grover Cleveland High School in 1956. After graduation from high school, Gerda secured a fine secretarial position with Western Electric in NYC, but the Lord was, at the same time, putting in her heart a desire to serve Him in His vineyard. She then took a position as a secretary at Pilgrim Camp, upstate NY. Later the Lord led his hand maiden to training for her future in Elizabeth, NJ, where for about four years Gerda helped in the work of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, with her sister and brother-in-law, Rev. Robert D. Kalis. About two years later she began to feel that the Lord was directing her steps to Taiwan to join Sisters Elisabeth Lindau and Pearl Young in the work there. For many years, Gerda was employed as a Pastor of Woodhaven Chinese Zion Church, NYC until her retirement. She was a member of the Ridgewood Pentecostal Fellowship, Missionary to Taiwan for 58 years. Gerda spoke fluent Mandarin.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rolf and Paul Bocker and a brother-in-law Rev. Robert D. Kalis and sister-in-law Anna Bocker.

Survivors include her beloved family; her sister: Ruth Kalis of Bloomsburg, sister-in-law: Elsie Bocker of Cornelius, NC; four nieces, Dianne, Kathleen, Ruth Joy and Ellen; five nephews, Matthew, Phillip, John, Andrew and David.
