Obituary

George William Sherman, age 94, of Bloomsburg, died on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at his home in Scott Township. George was a resident of his home in Bloomsburg for over 16 years and had lived most of his life in the Berwick and Nescopeck areas.
George was born on Wednesday, May 17, 1922 in Berwick, a son of the late Wilbur C. and Clara (Milheim) Sherman. Throughout his younger years, George attended both Berwick and Nescopeck area schools. He served his country during World War II in the Army 63rd Infantry and earned the rank of Corporal.
Following his Honorable Discharge he expanded his education under the G.I. Bill and became a carpenter. His skills were numerous and he worked as a brick layer, carpenter, and hydraulic mechanic. Throughout his working career he was employed by AC&F, Columbia Industries and Weis Market all of Berwick.
George was an avid fisherman his entire life. He also enjoyed camping. He raised Beagle Dogs and was a former member of the Nescopeck Beagle Club. He admired old cars and was a member of the Nescopeck VFW. George attended the Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy.
In addition to his parents, George was also preceded by his first wife Betty on November 2, 1982; step daughter, Roxanne Albertson, step son Clifton Walter and three brothers: Elvin
Sherman, Alvin Sherman and William Sherman.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 years, Goldie P. (Robbins) Sherman; daughter: Eileen Payne (Arlen) of Hetlerville; step children: Thomas Walter (Sharon) of Bloomsburg, Leroy Walter (Danett) of Wapwallopen, Linda Star (Roland) of Bloomsburg:4 grandchildren, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, step great grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Sherman family.
