George H. Houser, age 76, of Zion Grove, PA died on Sunday June 5, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law in Mifflinville. George was a resident of his Beaver Twp. home for 44 years and previously lived in Lime Ridge.
George was born on Thursday, November 29, 1934 in Shumans, PA one of fourteen children of John and Edna Fisher Houser. He was a 1954 graduate of the Beaver High School. He served from 1957 to 1959 with the US Army during the peacetime era. Most of his working life he was a truck driver. He began employment in 1959 at the former Hidlay Oil Co. and retired in 2001 from Hidlay's successor, Montour Oil Co.
Mr. Houser was a member of the Almedia Bible Church where he was a former Deacon and Treasurer. He was a member of Catawissa Creek Restoration Committee and the NRA. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies Fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Also, George spent many years playing YMCA/Church softball up until last summer.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sandra (Sholly) Houser; a daughter: Renae Miller and her husband, Randy of Bloomsburg; a son: Robin Houser and his wife, Joan, of Danville; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter; five siblings: Howard Houser and wife, Edna, of Catawissa, Curtis Houser and wife, Donna, who cared for him during his last illness, of Mifflinville, Ernest Houser and wife, Beth, of Scotch Valley ; Thelma Mindick of Rock Glen and Lois Futoma of Zion Grove.
George was preceded in death by eight siblings: a brother in infancy, Glen Houser, Kenneth Houser, Doyle Houser, Charlotte Dupree, Edna Greising, Cathleen Heckman and Gloria Hauck.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg with his pastor, Rev. John Curtis Sutton, officiating. Burial will follow in Elan Memorial Park. Friends will be received Tuesday, June 7 from 6 to 9 p.m.
