G. Dane Keller, age 82, formerly of Bloomsburg, died on Monday evening, October 7, 2013 at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center in Pottstown. Dane was formerly a resident of Sherwood Village in Scott Township before moving to the Gilbertsville area.
Dane was born on Friday, March 6, 1931 in Orange Township, a son of the late H. Raymond and Leona (Kitchen) Keller. Dane completed his education after graduating in 1949 from the Bloomsburg High School. Following his education, Dane enlisted with the United States Navy where he served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict until his time of honorable discharge in 1955. On December 12, 1959, he married the former D. Marilyn Girton. After returning home from the service, Dane was employed by the former Magee Carpet Company and the B.O. Daubert Company for many years. For over 30 years, Dane was employed by Bloomsburg University in the Supply Department until his retirement in 1991. While living in the Bloomsburg area, Dane and his wife were members of the Bloomsburg Christian Church and most recently a member of the Hillside Christian Church in Sinking Spring. He was also a member of the Boyertown American Legion Post #471 and a former member of the Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273.
In addition to his parents, Dane was preceded by eight siblings: Arlene Dietrich, Harold Keller, Bertelle Shultz, Martha Cragle, Kenneth Keller, Derl Keller, Marjorie Wagner and Doyle Keller. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, D. Marilyn (Girton) Keller; a daughter: Brenda Desko and husband, George, and three grandchildren: Joshua Desko, Kayla Desko and Hannah Desko all of Boyertown; three children: Steven Keller and wife, Sharon; Debra Stolz; and Cindy Rider and husband, Terry; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren all of the Bloomsburg area.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Thursday, October 10 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with his pastors, Pastor W. Sheldon Lee and Eric Miller, Lead Minister, officiating. Graveside services will full Military Honors provided by a combined VFW/American Legion group will immediately follow services in Lime Ridge.
