Freeman P. "Speed" Carl, age 91, of Bloomsburg passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Speed was a resident of Bloomsburg all of his life.

He was born on Wednesday, March 23, 1932 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Lewis and Helen (Hampton) Carl. Throughout his younger years, Speed attended the Bloomsburg High School. He faithfully served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. On August 25, 1956, Speed married his loving wife, the former Eleanor M. Paden. Speed was employed as a truck driver for Wise Potato Chip Company, Berwick until his retirement in 1997. Speed was a member of the Immaculate Conception Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church (St. Mary's), Berwick. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. Speed enjoyed spending his time fishing and in recent years sitting on his back porch smoking cigars with family.

In addition to his parents, Speed was also preceded in death by five brothers.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Eleanor M. Carl; a daughter, Vickie A. Shaffer and husband Paul of Stillwater, two sons, Douglas P. Carl and wife Sheila of Berwick, Gary P. Carl and wife Lori of Bloomsburg, four grandchildren, Kyle Shaffer, Jacqleen Laney and husband Matthew, Lindsey Carl, Bradley Carl and fiancee Sarah, a great-grandson, Owen Carl, and a great-granddaughter, Amber Carl.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick, with military honors. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Carl family.
