Obituary

Frederick S. Mercer, age 71, of E. Eighth St. in Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 a patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He was a resident of his home on Eighth Street for over 20 years and formerly of Fourth Street in Bloomsburg
Frederick was born on Friday, September 27, 1940 in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Samuel and Francis (Richard) Mercer. He was raised as a child, by the late Albert and Margaret (Richard) Andrews. He was a member of the 1958 Graduating Class of the Bloomsburg High School. For over 20 years, he was employed by Bastian Tire in Williamsport, until retiring from the trade of Sales in 2007. He was a member of the Lutheran faith and also a social member of the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273. Friends and family will remember Frederick as always having a smile on his face and a story to tell.
Survivors include a Step-Mother: Muriel Mercer of Wall, NJ; his beloved companion: Doris Miller of Bloomsburg; six children: Lori Wilson and husband, Marty, of Lewisburg; Frederick J. Mercer and wife, Lisa, of Bloomsburg; Martin Mercer and wife, Kathy, of Bloomsburg; Clinton Mercer and wife, Jennifer, of Loudon, NH; Luke Mercer and wife, Jessica, of Holly Springs, NC; and Grant Mercer and wife, Maria, of Sunbury; 13 grandchildren; and six siblings: Beverly Baker and husband, John, of Atlanta, GA; Samuel Mercer and wife, Ida, of Clearwater, FL; Sharon Machado and husband, Don, of Kailua, HI; Suzanne Lunham and husband, Bob, of Pine Bush, NY; Michael Mercer, and wife, Maria, of Stewartsville, NJ; and Tricia Surdovel and husband, Bill, of Wall, NJ.
He was preceded in death by a cousin with whom he was raised, the late Albert "Bud" Andrews.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 23, at 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg with Rev. Mackenzie Scott, pastor of First Baptist Church of Lewisburg, officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at the Allen Funeral Home from 12 noon until the time of service. Graveside Services will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Immediate family will provide flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association, 6041 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
