Fred L. Whitenight Jr., age 89, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was a resident of Bloomsburg his entire life.
He was born on Wednesday, April 3, 1935 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Fred L., Sr. and Catherine M. (Houseknecht) Whitenight. He graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1954. On December 15, 1951, he married his loving wife, the former Donna Swavely. For many years, Fred was employed by TRW Textron as a Supervisor until the plant closed in 1996. Fred also worked at Allen Funeral Home for over 25 years.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. Fred was also a Bloomsburg Fair Concessions Director, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Rosemont Cemetery President for 35 years, on the Bloomsburg Town Park Board and was Past Exalted Ruler of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge No. 436. He was a Past Master of the Washington Lodge No. 265, Most Puissant Grand Master of the Grand Council of PA and Past Presiding Officer of all York Rite Bodies, a 33rd Degree Mason of Valley of Bloomsburg and MSA of Valley of Bloomsburg and an Officer of Wm. Maclay Chapter SAR. He enjoyed coin collecting, stamp collecting, motorcycle racing, hunting, fishing and played as a drummer in a local band.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 72 years: Donna Whitenight; two daughters: Kathleen Black and husband Luther "Luke", Susan Peritz and husband Paul; three granddaughters: J. Juniper Black, Becca Evans and husband Shawn, Reanna Peritz; two great-grandchildren: Braylin Evans and Anderson Evans; and a sister, Patricia Cornelison all of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg. Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm followed by the Bloomsburg Elks Memorial Service at 6:15 pm. Additional visitation will be Friday June 28, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Rev. Chad A. Hebrink, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Whitenight family.
