Fred L. Strausser, Sr., age 71, of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday, February 18, 2016, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville surrounded by his family. Fred was a resident of his home in Mt. Pleasant Township for over 70 years.
Fred was born on February 9, 1945 in Philadelphia, a son of the late Leon S. and Miriam (Troy) Strausser. Fred graduated from Central Columbia High School in 1965. His entire working life he was a self employed farmer and also worked for Robbins Dairy Farm.
On October 13, 1966, Fred married his loving wife, Maryetta (Adkins) Strausser formerly of St. Albans, West Virginia. Fred served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Fred enjoyed spending his time with his grandchildren and he also enjoyed hunting and collecting John Deere memorabilia.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, Maryetta Strausser of Bloomsburg, a daughter, Sherri Smith and husband, Thomas K, Smith; two sons: Fred L. Strausser, Jr. and companion, Sherry Seal; and Terry L. Strausser, all of Bloomsburg; an "adoptive son": Anthony Snyder and wife, Cathy, of Millville; eight grandchildren and one great grandson; a brother, Thomas L. Strausser and wife, Gay Ann, of Catawissa and a sister: Betty Beishline of Mainville.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening, February 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Thursday morning, February 25, at 10 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with Rev. Stanley Bower, pastor of Canby Lutheran Church, officiating. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
