Fred R. Kitchen, age 90, of County Line Road, Danville, died on Saturday, February 26, 2011 after being admitted on Friday to Grandview Health Home in Danville.
Fred was born on Tuesday, September 7, 1920 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Frank and Mamie Ryder Kitchen. He attended the Bloomsburg Area Schools. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army with the Medical Section 59th Ferry Squadron, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was a Bronze Star Recipient. For over 40 years, he was employed as a Loom Operator for the Magee Carpet Company until his retirement in 1985.
He was preceded in death by a son: Fred Kitchen in February of 2008 and six brothers: Eugene, Warren, Raymond, Ralph, Woodrow and William Kitchen.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty E. Cotner; six children: Larry G. Kitchen and his wife, Martha, of Bloomsburg; Gary C. Kitchen of Milton; Doris Ulrich and her husband, William, of Jerseytown; Terry L. Kitchen of Danville; Sharon Whitman of San Diego, CA; and Brian K. Kitchen and his wife, Sharon, of Shamokin; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Frank Kitchen of Florida and Donald Kitchen of Berwick; and a sister: Ruth Roth of Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will be private at the request of the family with Rev. Thomas J. Fetterolf of the Emanuel Reformed Church of Mainville, officiating. Burial will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. A combined VFW/American Legion group will provide Military Honors. The Kitchen family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home of 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
