Frank M. Bowman, age 89, of Bloomsburg, died on Monday morning, February 24, 2014 at his home in Almedia, and under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice. Frank was a resident of his home in Almedia for over twelve years and was formerly of Orangeville.
Frank was born on Friday, May 16, 1924 in Orangeville, a son of the late Frank M. and Myrtle (Campbell) Bowman. Throughout his younger years, Frank attended the local Orangeville area school, and later graduated from Central Columbia High School. Immediately following his education, Frank enlisted with the United States Army where he served his country faithfully during World War II. Frank served with the 61st Signal Battalion Company C during the war and was awarded the honors of the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the EAME Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars. On January 22, 1946, Frank was honorably discharged from his faithful service to our country.
For over 37 years, Frank was employed as a Journeyman with PP&L from the Bloomsburg Division. On January 16, 1981, Frank married his loving wife, the former Carolyn Reichart of Lightstreet. Frank and his wife were faithful members of the Ridge Street United Methodist Church in Almedia. Frank was a member of the Washington Lodge #265 F&AM and the Caldwell Consistory, and recently received his 50 year membership recognition. During his retirement, Frank worked as an Electrician for the Bloomsburg Fair Assoc.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 years, Carolyn (Reichart) Bowman; a son: Charles F. Bowman and wife, Janice, of Hazleton; two grandchildren: Michael Bowman and Dina Stewart and one great-granddaughter: Althea Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, February 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc, 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Friday morning, February 28 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with his pastor, Rev. Robert J. Eddinger, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville with full Military Honors to be provided by a combined American Legion/VFW Group.
