Frances M. Riggs, age 88, formerly of Williams Street in Bloomsburg, died on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 a patient of the Buffalo Valley Nursing Home. She was a resident of Buffalo Valley since 2008.
Frances was born on Saturday, June 3, 1922 in Mt. Pleasant Township, a daughter of the late James and Harriet Eves Mordan. She was a member of the 1940 Graduating Class of the Bloomsburg High School. For most of her working career, she was employed by the former F.W. Woolworth and the former Ritter Office Supply in Bloomsburg.
She was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church and also a member of the Daughters of the American Colonist in Bloomsburg. Frances enjoyed sewing, needlework, crafts and especially gardening.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leon C. Riggs on January 5, 1994.
Survivors include a daughter: Darl Cadwallader and her husband, Russel, of Bloomsburg; a son: James M. Riggs and his wife, Sara Lee, of Landisville; three grandchildren: Matthew Cadwallader, Katherine Riggs and Emily Riggs; a brother: Merrill Mordan, and his wife, Beryl, of Davidsville; and a sister: Mary Berlin of Bloomsburg.
Friends will be received in the Church Parlor on Monday, September 27 from 10 to 11 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 North Market Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Chapel of the Church, with her pastor, Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating. Graveside services will be held in Elan Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
