Eva Mae (Welsh) Schechterly, age 91, a life-long resident of Columbia County, died on Friday evening, April 18, 2014, a resident of Balanced Care at Bloomsburg for the past two years.
Eva was born on Monday, January 1, 1923 in Orangeville, a daughter of the late Robert A. and Myrtle M. (Neuhard) Welsh. Throughout her younger years, she attended and later graduated from the former Scott High School in 1940. Shortly after completing her education, Eva met and later married her loving husband, Robert R., Schechterly, Jr. of Nescopeck. In addition to caring for her family in the home, Eva was employed and later became the owner and operator of the former House of Fabrics in Bloomsburg for many years. Eva was very active member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Bloomsburg where she served on the Women in Missions Committee, the Pollyanna Sunday School Class, and also a former Consistory member. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society in Bloomsburg, the Hemlock Homemakers, and also spent many weekends camping with the Wheel Estaters of Hazelton.
In addition to her parents, Eva was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 26 years, the late Robert R. Schechterly, Jr. on December 8, 1968; by her son: Thomas E. Schechterly on November 5, 1994; and also by a brother: Eugene Welsh and a sister: Ella Mae Brewer.
Survivors include four children: Donald E. Schechterly and wife, Gloria, of Bloomsburg; Robert R. Schechterly III and wife, Cheryl, of Bloomsburg; Gail Bloom and husband, Kenneth, of Orangeville; and Amy LaBelle and husband, Suphot Dang, also of Bloomsburg; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Eva was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will begin on Tuesday morning, April 22 from 1 to 2 p.m. from the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 E. 7th Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Tuesday morning, April 22 at 2 p.m. from the Trinity Reformed U.C.C, Bloomsburg with Rev. Stephen D. Engelhardt, officiating. Graveside committal services where Eva will be laid to rest beside her husband will immediately follow in Lime Ridge.
