Obituary

Eugene F. Denby, age 83, of East Fifth Street, Bloomsburg, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in the Bloomsburg Hospital ER. He was a resident of his home on Fifth Street for over 47 years. Eugene was born on Sunday, October 17, 1926 in Luzerne, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Julius and Clara (Warokowski) Denby. He was a 1944 graduate of Harter High School in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. Following graduation, Eugene served in the United States Navy during World War II and obtained the rank of Seaman First Class. He served on the NTS Bainbridge, US Charger and USS Wichita. During his service in the United States Navy, he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon. In 1987, following his 35 years of employment, he retired as a Journeyman Iron worker with the Local 489 of Scranton International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers. He was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg. Eugene enjoyed many activities such as bowling and the beach. He was also an avid fan of the Atlantic Braves and was a Champion Dart Thrower. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Arlene Teter Denby, three daughters: Brenda Sabo and her husband, Joseph, of Bloomsburg; Cathy Hartman and her husband, Jim, of Harrisburg; Donna Denby of Mechanicsburg; and five grandchildren: Blair Sabo, Jonathan Sabo, Courtney Sabo, Erin Hartman and Alex Hartman. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 5 at 12 noon at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 North Market Street, Bloomsburg with his pastor, the Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating. Private graveside services will be held at the Zion Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Eugene's name are suggested to: St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 North Market Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815. Funeral Arrangements are under the care of the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market Street, Bloomsburg, PA .
