Obituary

Elva M. Shaffer, age 88, of Bissetts Lane, Bloomsburg passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at her residence under the care of her daughter.
Elva was born on Thursday, July 20, 1922 in Scotch Valley, a daughter of the late William and Laura Hunsinger LeVan. She attended the Tomhicken Schools. A Charter Member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church for over 61 years, her faith was very strong and that in itself sustained her along her life's journey. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading. For over 30 years, she was employed by Berwick Knitting Mills.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Hunsinger LeVan in 1938 and her father, William LeVan in September of 1969; her beloved husband, Morris W. Shaffer on May 26, 1971; a son: Rodney Shaffer in May of 1983; a step-mother: Mabel LeVan on February 28, 1991; two step-sisters: Dorothy Long and June Stewart; two step-brothers: William and Charlie Heaps; a brother and sister-in-law: Harold & Isabelle LeVan.
Survivors include a daughter: Kathleen Kasparek and her husband, Calvin, of Leechburg, PA; three sons: William D. Shaffer of Stillwater; Kerry A. Shaffer and his wife, Suzanne, of Buckhorn; and Paul M. Shaffer and his wife, Vickie, of Stillwater; a step-brother: Ted Heaps and his wife, Lana, of Millville; three sisters: Donna Gardner of Muncy, Gloria Bittner of Bloomsburg; and Joan Welgus of Wilkes-Barre; two brothers: Connie and Robert LeVan of Bloomsburg; eight grandchildren: Malen LeVan, Susan Oman, Rodney Shaffer, Annette Holcomb, Joshua and Jessika Shaffer and Kyle and Jacqleen Shaffer; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 1 at 2 p.m. from the Glad Tiding Assembly of God Church, 706 Central Road in Bloomsburg with Rev. John Kolenda, officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Graveside Services will be held in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
