Elroy M. Karnes, age 62, of Espy, died Thursday, September 24, at his home under the care of Columbia Montour Hospice. Elroy was a resident of his Scott Township home for 40 years.
Elroy was born on Thursday, July 23, 1953 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late James and Anna (Taylor) Karnes. In 1972 he graduated from the Central Columbia High School.
A welder by trade, Elroy was employed by AC&F of Milton for 30 years, retiring in 2001. After retirement Elroy owned and operated Outback Bait and Tackle, plus obtained his taxidermy certification. He then continued working at Cheetah Chassis of Berwick.
Hunting and fishing were pastimes avidly pursued by Elroy in his leisure hours. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and was a member of the Catawissa Boat Club.
On July 24, 1971, Elroy married the former Rosetta Cooper who survives. Also surviving is a daughter: Rachel Karnes (Bruce Troutman) of New Providence PA, a son: Shawn Karnes (Karen) of Danville; Eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Mary Poisson of Festus MO, Jeanne Vincent of Bloomsburg, Minervia Spaid (Glen) of Bloomsburg and James "Butch" Karnes (Laurie) of Orangeville. Elroy was preceded in death by a son: Jesse E. Karnes on May 1, 2013 and two brothers: Charles Karnes and Harry Karnes.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St. Bloomsburg
Funeral services will begin at 11a.m., Wednesday, September 30 at the funeral home with Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating.
