Elizabeth L. (Shellaway) Hoffman, age 95, of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday morning, October 30, 2014 a resident of Geisinger-Bloomsburg Health Care Center since 2004.
Elizabeth was born on Sunday, September 28, 1919 in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Roman and Dora (Pakach) Shellaway. Throughout her younger years, Elizabeth attended the East Greenville Area School. For many years, Elizabeth was employed with the Cafeteria Staff at the St. Columba Catholic School in Bloomsburg. In addition to being a member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish, she also sang with the church choir for many years. She had a very popular reputation throughout the church for her well known and delicious Pierogie recipe.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John H. Hoffman, on March 8, 2008. She was also preceded by four brothers: Toly Shellaway, Samuel Shellaway, Paul Shellaway and George Shellaway; and also by two sisters: Clara Koch and Millie Sovia.
Survivors include her only son: Michael G. Hoffman of Bloomsburg; a grandson: Jared M. Hoffman and a great-grandson: Jaxson D. Hoffman both of Bloomsburg; and also a sister: Martha Keil and husband, John, of Bechtelsville, PA.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening, November 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Monday morning, October 3 at 10 a.m. from the St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron and Third Street, Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, as celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Hoffman family.
