Eleanor L. Galbreath, age 91, of West Ninth Street, Bloomsburg died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at her home under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice. Eleanor had been in failing health for the past several years.
Eleanor was born on Thursday, May 12, 1921 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Gustav A. and Carrie O. (Sandstrom) Anderson. She graduated from Worcester Commerce High School in 1939, and also the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Following her graduation, she was employed as a Registered Nurse by Worcester City Hospital.
On April 9, 1944, Eleanor married Dr. John W. Galbreath, and her passing ends a marital span of 68 years. After locating to Bloomsburg in 1952, she assisted in her husband's dental practice and variously worked part-time at the Bloomsburg Hospital, Danville State Hospital and the former Maple Crest Nursing Home.
In addition to her husband, John, survivors include a son: Stevan A. Galbreath of Bloomsburg; three daughters: Nancy Hesser and husband, Phillip, of Crocheron, MD; Susan Fike and husband, Terry, of Lock Haven; and Anne Cosper also of Bloomsburg; and also one granddaughter: Rebecca Cosper.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc, 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, August 24 at 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg. Gravesides services will be held at a later date with the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Lebanon County. Memorial contributions in Eleanor's honor are suggested to Columbia Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave., Suite 200, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
