Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor (Ellie) Ann Beck November 1, 2024, at the age of 90. Ellie was born on September 23, 1934, in Bloomsburg, PA, to Harvey and Mary Ella (nee Christopher) Long.

Ellie met the love of her life and beloved husband, Harvey Beck, Jr. and the two shared a happy, fulfilling marriage for more than 40 years. Ellie was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support for her family and community. Along with her husband, she was a devout member of the Church of the Nazarene in Bloomsburg and, later, Milton PA.

Ellie's life revolved around the church. She spent most of her adult life working with youth programs. She and Harvey passed along their love of God and church to hundreds, if not thousands, of young people and were seen as shining examples of dedication and commitment. Ellie was well known for creating plays and composing songs for the youth program. It is hard to forget her Christmas pageants. Her kindness touched all.

Music played an important role throughout Ellie's life. The church organist for almost five decades, she was also blessed with a beautiful voice. Ellie sang not only at her church, but at Nazarene conventions and meetings across the country. She helped start the popular choral group "The Ladies Chorus", who also sang at Nazarene events. For almost fifty years, Ellie taught both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the Bloomsburg church.

Ellie worked at US Radium for a few years before assuming the role of Dispatcher for K-Cab, which she ran with Harvey. She later worked in the Medical Transcription department of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville PA.

Preceded in joining the Lord: mother and father, siblings Glen Long, Ona Long and Marie Hoyt, husband Harvey, daughter Carol and daughter in law Nancy.

Survived by: son Steven, grandsons David and Nathan and great-grandchildren Amelia and Charlie. She is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the Crossroads Church of the Nazarene at 71 Nazarene Lane, Milton PA on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 1:00 3:00 pm.
