Obituary

Edith Lorraine Hilbert, age 90, of Catawissa, passed away on Friday morning, September 17, 2021, at her Franklin Township home.

She was born on Thursday, February 5, 1931 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Arthur D. and Edith E. (Sherman) Edson. Lorraine graduated from the Bemus Point High School, Bemus Point, NY in 1948. Lorraine then lived for a time in Sugargrove, PA before moving to Tucson, AZ and as time would have it, life brought her back to PA. Her last wishes were to have her ashes spread on a mountaintop here in Pennsylvania- bringing her life full circle.

Lorraine loved keeping her mind sharp and spent endless hours on word and crossword puzzles. When her arthritis was not so painful she crafted beautiful pieces of embroidery. She loved reading her Bible and loved the Lord. She enjoyed reading mystery novels and she would read until her "eyes crossed" as she would say. Her memory never wavered and she could recite every birthday in the family and would tell us stories about who she walked to school with and the conversation she had - when she was five years old. Her love of baking and cooking brought joy to us all and it even won her an award.

In addition to her parents, Lorraine was also preceded in death by her husband Harold Fenton Hilbert on April 12, 1990, by a brother, Arthur Edson, Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen Hilbert.

Survivors include her six children; Linda D. Hilbert and her partner Donna Wolk of Catawissa, Wayne Hilbert and wife Carol of Tucson, AZ, Daniel Hilbert of Flagstaff, AZ, Ted Hilbert and wife Susan of Tucson, AZ, Tim Hilbert and wife Eileen of Iowa, Jeff Hilbert and wife Toni of Indianapolis, IN, eight grandchildren; Tiffany Vazquez, Kim Sampson, Danielle Baker, Stephanie Miller, Ryan Hilbert, Tim Hilbert, Amanda Hilbert, Sydney Nieto and ten great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Hilbert family.

Memorial contributions in Lorraine's name may be sent to: The Bloomsburg Food Cupboard, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
