Edith E. Fenstermacher, age 92, of Bloomsburg, died on Friday, March 23, 2012 in the Emmanuel Center, Danville where she was a resident since January 18, 2012.
Edith was born on Monday, April 14, 1919 in Montgomery PA, a daughter of the late H. Frank and Rose Beyer Evans. She was a 1936 graduate of the Bloomsburg High School and in 1940 she completed her training as a Registered Nurse with the Bloomsburg Hospital School of Nursing.
For 43 years, Mrs. Fenstermacher was employed by The Bloomsburg Hospital. She retired in 1983. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. In her younger years, she was active with The Bloomsburg Hospital Alumni Association, The Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary and for many years knitted infant caps for the maternity ward of The Bloomsburg Hospital. She was also a very active volunteer with the Bloomsburg Chapter of the American Red Cross and a member of the Magnolia Outreach Club in Edgewater, Florida.
On January 26, 2012, Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years: Joseph S. Fenstermacher. Survivors include a daughter: Joyce A. Hart and husband, Clifton, of Carlisle PA, a son: Frank Remaly and wife, Eleanor, of Greybull WY; a step-daughter: Sue Ellen King and husband, Wayne, of Bristol IN; two granddaughters, three grandsons and seven great grandchildren. Edith was the last member of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 27 at 10:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Joel E. Zeiders, officiating. Friends will be received just prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
