E. Mae Coombs , age 101, formerly of Franklin Street, Bloomsburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, a patient of the Elmcroft Assisted Living in Berwick.
Mae was born on Friday, April 28, 1916 in Danville, a daughter of the late Leverling O. and Margaret M. (Mahan) Willis. Throughout her younger years, Mae attended the Bloomsburg Area schools and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1934. In 1936, Mae married her loving first husband, Kenneth R. Johnson and in 1999 she married her loving second husband William J. Coombs. For many years, Mae was employed by Grants/Deihl Gift Shop as a Sales Person until her retirement. She was a member of the Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church, and she enjoyed working in her garden.
In addition to her parents, Mae was also preceded by her first husband, Kenneth R. Johnson, her second husband, William J. Coombs and her sister, Virginia Sheetz.
Survivors include her daughter in law, Audrey F. Coombs; grandson, Curtis W. Coombs; granddaughter, Abbey Mensch; granddaughter Jami E. Schmid; great granddaughter, Margo Mensch; great grandson, Mason Mensch and great grandson Andrew C. Schmid all of Bloomsburg. She is also survived by her close friends, Orval W. Shaffer; Terry Shaffer and wife Linda; Vicki Shaffer; Ronna Boyles all of Berwick; Gordon Shaffer and wife Carol of Duncansville; and Cindee wife of Harry Thompson of Holidaysburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg with Rev. George A. Zerbe, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Millville Cemetery, Millville. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Coombs family.
