Obituary

Douglas J. Bredbenner, age 79, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 at his Beaver Township home. Douglas was a resident of his home in Beaver Township for over 42 years.

He was born on Tuesday, December 21, 1943 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Fisher) Bredbenner. He graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1962 and expanded his education by attending various trade schools. He faithfully served in the United States Navy on the Destroyer USS Lowery DD770 as a machinist from 1963-1966. On April 9,1964 Douglas married his loving wife, the former Bunny Benjamin. For over 27 years, Douglas was employed by PPL Montour Steam Electric as a mechanic until his retirement on November 1, 2001. He was a member of the American Legion, Bloomsburg. In high school he played football and wrestled. He took great pleasure in farming and enjoyed coon and deer hunting.

In addition to his parents, Douglas was also preceded in death by a sister; Shirley Breech, and two brothers, Ralph Bredbenner and Richard Bredbenner.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Bunny Bredbenner of Bloomsburg, three sons: G. "Rusty" D. Bredbenner and wife Mary of SC, Michael A. Bredbenner of TX, R. Matthew Bredbenner of Bloomsburg, three grandchildren, Dr. Kate Bredbenner and husband Jonathan Firestone of NY, Addison
Bredbenner and Tristan Bredbenner of Benton; a brother, Charles Bredbenner and wife Janet of DE, a brother-in-law; Brad Benjamin of Bloomsburg, and a sister-in-law; Billie Bredbenner of FL. He is also survived by many good friends and many nephews.

A private service will be at the convenience of the family.

The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market and Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Bredbenner family.
