Dorothy M. (Parker) Atherton, age 88, formerly of Lime Ridge, died on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2015 a patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Dorothy was currently a resident of the Grandview Health Homes in Danville since this past December.
Dorothy was born on Saturday, March 20, 1926 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Clark M. and Jennie (Oman) Parker. Throughout her younger years, Dorothy attended the local Bloomsburg Area Schools. Shortly after her education, Dorothy married her loving husband, George Atherton of Lemoyne. Prior to beginning her family, Dorothy was employed for a brief time at the former U.S. Radium plant in South Centre Township, and also was employed at the Central Columbia High School. She and her husband were both dedicated and faithful members of the Lime Ridge United Methodist Church where she served with the United Methodist Women group. Dorothy was very dedicated to her children, and loved spending time with her family. She was also very talented with her skills in crocheting.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, the late George T. Atherton, who passed on August 11, 1990; a son: David Atherton in 1970; and four siblings: Norman Parker, Arthur Parker, Jay Parker and Clara Hosler.
Survivors include her daughter: Sandra McCarthy and husband, Dean, of Bloomsburg; and her son: Paul L. Atherton of Leesburg, VA; three grandchildren: Angela Crossley, Christopher McCarthy and Mark Atherton; several great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Harold Parker and wife, Janet, of Bloomsburg; and Clark Parker and wife, Dolores, of Danville.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday morning, March 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Friday morning, March 13 at 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with Rev. Ed Cope, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Lime Ridge.
