Dorothy L. Melick, age 88, formerly of 501 West Main St., Bloomsburg, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Balanced Care, Bloomsburg where she resided for the past four years. Dorothy was born on Wednesday, October 19, 1921 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Robert B. and Helen Johnston Ikeler. She graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1939. For her entire working life, Dorothy was employed by JC Penney in Bloomsburg providing Clerical and Payroll duties. She was a a long time member of the Rupert United Methodist Church and because it was closer to her home she transferred her membership to the Wesley United Methodist Church in 1997. Preceding her in death was her first husband: Barney Barton; her second husband J. Harlond "Skip" Melick in 1994 and her only brother: Robert B. Ikeler, Sr. in 1997. Survivors include a step-son: Ronald J. Melick of Florida; three step-grandchildren: Kim Walters, Randy Melick and Curtis Melick and several step-great grandchildren ; a nephew Robert B. Ikeler, Jr. and wife, Susan of Bloomsburg and a niece: Susan Sumner and her husband, Hugh, also of Bloomsburg. Graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Dutch Hill Cemetery. Wesley United Methodist Lay Minister of Visitation, Lisa Mitchell, will officiate. Services are under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St. Memorial contributions are suggested to Wesley United Methodist Memorial Fund, 130 West Third St., Bloomsburg.
